U.M. WOMEN

United Methodist Women is open to all women.

Who We Are

United Methodist Women meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the Wesley Room in March, April, June, September, November, December. We don’t meet in January or February due to uncertain weather; we don’t have a meeting in May because the yard sale is traditionally the first Saturday in May and we need to recuperate from that; we take a summer break in July and August, and we don’t have a meeting in October because it usually falls on Columbus Day holiday.

Our local unit of UMW is a part of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre District of the Susquehanna Conference UMW, which is under the National Organization of United Methodist Women.  Our local unit makes a financial pledge to the District, which in turn pledges to the Conference, which in turn pledges to the National Organization.  These mission dollars support ministries focusing on women, children, and youth around the world.  Our yard sale proceeds help us fund this pledge as well.

What We Do

The United Methodist Women at Central United Methodist Church is one of our mission based ministries.  In cooperation with our church community, the United Methodist Women support missions and projects of the local church, as well as the United Methodist Church nationally.  We support each other as we minister to the needs of women and children worldwide.  We offer every woman an opportunity to grow in Christ through service, fellowship, and special presentations that occur at the meetings.

The United Methodist Women’s Giant Indoor Yard Sale, held on the first or second Saturday of each year, is the source of funding for missions and ministries supported by the United Methodist Women.  These include Ministry Shares, our church’s Heat & Light Fund, VIP Family, Wayne County Children’s Christmas Bureau, Honesdale Emergency Food Pantry, and CUMC Mission Team.

CONTACT Nancy Gaylord or Jane Wilding for additional information regarding United Methodist Women through our website or after service.
